It has been established in 1992 as a non-profit organization of volunteers gathered under the slogan ““For the welfare of Humanity”, actively engaged in projects for the benefit of the Iraqi population regardless of race, gender and political or religious affiliation.
Al-Amal started its work in Iraqi Kurdistan Region. In May 2003, its head office was opened in Baghdad. It has four offices in Erbil, Kirkuk, Najaf, and Basra.
IAA has been registered at the NGO’s Directorate under the # 1Z687.
Its activities and services are provided throughout Iraq ranging from health services, awareness, capacity building and advocacy campaigns. The aim is for the rehabilitation of people and for influencing the social consciousness towards the creation of a democratic state based on guarantee human rights and rule of law.
IAA works closely with local and INGOs, and with various government apparatus and UN specialized agencies, on programmes aimed at combating all forms of violence and discrimination, the promotion of culture of Human Rights, Gender Equality, tolerance and social peace. Al-Amal also works for law reform, along with rehabilitation of workers in police and judicial fields, with the aim of securing the supremacy of law and justice.
